Tochter Edith Maria, geb. 1903, Tochter von Arthur heiratet 1933 Dr.Luzny; Edith Maria ist 1933 aus der Ikg ausgetreten. Arthur starb 1833 und ist in Wien Simmering in der Feuerhalle beigesetzt. Die Verbindung der Familie nach Mattersburg war nur sehr kurz, der Großteil ist in Wien und Nagy Kanisza zu finden

Hallo mein Name ist Gertrude maljarik geb. Wottitz mein Großvater war Arthur wottitz verheiratet mit Maria Beranek. Er war der Sohn von Karl wottitz verheiratet mit Fanny Löwy. Dessen Vater war Samuel Wottitz verheiratet mit Charlotte Löwy. Der Vater war Simon Hirsch Wottitz verheiratet mit josepha Eisenstätter. Gyula/Julius Woittitz was brother of my g-grand father Alexander/Sandor Woititz. Gyula was born in Kormend 1843; his father was Adolf Wojtitz and mather was Mimi Weisz. This not agree with you data here. My source is Mormone records (USA) on microfilm about Kormend census. Regards,

I got the map.
Winkelgasse was near the top of the Judengasse, just a bit below Michael Koch-Srasse on the right side of the Judengasse (the Rathaus side).

Sorry that I cannot reproduce the map here, but hope Johannes will be able to post it (I sent it to him).

I said that it was probably meant to be from ESHET CHAYIL (see my previous note).

The abbreviation ב’וע’ is morning and evening (see also my previous note), nothing to do with ביתו.

תרף seems to be simply a misspelling for טרף, meaning here “parnassa” (see “Eshet Chayil” fom Mishlei). And הלוכות seems to be mistaken for הליכות (the ב after it is seemingly an abbreviation for ביתו).

I do not know what is תרף? Did the writer mean טרף (provision) as in ESHET CHAYIL ותתן טרף לביתה.

What is הלוכות? What was probably meant is that he went mornings and evenings to the Synagogue –

Der Familienname kommt vom boehmischen Wottitz, heute: Votice, einer Stadt in Tschechien. Sie liegt 16 Kilometer südlich von Benešov und gehört zum Okres Benešov.

Ich kenne mich in Mattersburg nicht gut aus, aber Hodik schreibt bei seinem topografischen Rundgang:

“Den Weg die Gasse abwärts zum Ausgangspunkt unserer Wanderung (das war die Synagoge) säumen zur Rechten zunächst eine geschlossene Reihe von meist einstöckigen Häusern, die nach der sogenannten “Gewarzbix”, jenem fächerartigen Bau, einem losen Haufen von unscheinbaren, windschiefen Häuschen Platz macht. Ein aufgelockertes Bild bietet die linke Straßenseite, Ausgangspunkt von Gässchen, die alle ihren Namen von jener Person ableiten, deren Behausung den Mittelpunkt des einzelnen Gässchens bildete.

Das würd zwar jetzt auf “Winkelgasse” eher weniger zutreffen, dennoch müsste doch eine dieser Gässchen gemeint sein, oder?

So we know, that our translation “Winkelgasse” was correct :)

@all Here we have an address – Winkelgasse ? 15. I do not know what the question mark stands for.
In earlier records there are no addresses but house numbers (see, for instance, Goldberger at 359, Rosenberger at 314 and Lazar Breuer at 336).
Can someone put addresses to the house numbers?
Was the change made when the two municipalities were united (1902/1903) or at some other time?

This is Julius Waishitz /Woittitz (the spelling was inconsistent in the records), son of Aron and Blumele. He was born in “Görment.”Julius and his wife Netti Oesterreicher were the parents of six children.
