Ein Faktum übrigens ist, dass es unglaublich nervig ist, die Matriken ab 1906/07 durchzusehen. Denn wie das kleine Bild oben in meinem Kommentar zeigt, ist ganz links das Eintragungsdatum und erst in der 2. Spalte das Todesdatum!
Und da finden wir insbesondere zwischen 1906 und 1920 sehr häufig Todesdaten, die erst Jahre später eingetragen werden, also etwa gestorben am 23. September 1915, eingetragen am 02. Mai 1918!

Und wenn eine Eintragung so lang nach dem Sterbedatum stattfindet, können wir naturgemäß auch einen Eintrage-/bzw. Übermittlungsfehler schlicht einfach nicht ausschließen, zumindest sollte ggf. dieser Umstand der Späteintragung als mögliche Ursache für eine Datumsdifferenz zwischen Datum in der hebräischen Inschrift und Matrikendatum in Erwägung gezogen werden.

Maybe they erronoeusly rendered automatically 1915 into תרע”ה, forgetting that the Hebrew new year starts in Tishri (and therefore the right date ought to be Tishri תרע”ו.)

I’ve linked now Jehuda and Ginendel in both blogposts, corrected the date above (and the permanent URL) and made a comment in the text above.

The first stone with a complete wrong hebrew date – obviously!

@Carole, yes, I think you’re right :) But because the basis of our transcriptions are always the hebrew incriptions, we decided to take the conversion date as above…

These are the arguments in favor of a mistake being made on the gravestone inscription, not in my analysis:

1. Netti was a common secular name for Ginendal.
2. The mother of Netti Oesterreicher was Johanna (Hani) Bauer. Hendl was a common secular for Hani.
3. The shape of the gravestone matches the shape of the stone of Julius, making it likely that they are related. 4. There were very few people in Mattersdorf with the name Wottitz (whatever the spelling) and they all were apparently from the same family.

Please prove me right or wrong.

Oh, I understand! Yes, we have the same records and indeed there we found the Woititz Gyulane as you write.

But the problem is, that we can read the hebrew death date very clear and only not quite clear is the year, if it is 5675 or 5678 (תרעה or תרעח).

Now, when we read 5678, the 15th Tischre was the 1st of October 1917 as written above.

If we read 5675, the 15th Tischre was the 5th of October 1914!

And the death date mentioned in the records is 23th of September 1915 and this is the jewish/hebrew date 15 Tischre 5676, and this is NOT written in the hebrew inscripiton!

Therefore we thought, that this is not the person who is mentioned in the records…?
But it is right, that in the records is mentioned her husband, named Woititz Gyula!

@Johannes: The metrical record that I referred to is the following:

Netti Waittitz née Österreicher death record. Date of death: 23 Sep 1915. Age: 70. Birthplace: Mattersdorf. Place of death: Mattersdorf. Spouse: Gyula Voittitiz [sic]. Parents: Josef Österreicher and Johanna Bauer. Death reported by her husband on 24 Sep 1915, who signed his name Julius Woittitz.Nagymárton death registrations 1902-1920, FHL microfilm 0700405, page 13 entry 77. [Researched by CGV 2006]

At the time of Netti’s death, the vital records for Jewish residents of Mattersdorf were recorded on the same registers as the Christian residents of the town.
