I do believe this may be my great-grandfather since my grandfather David ben Yakov Tzvi Schey was born in Mattersburg and the dates on the Matzeva work with the birth of my Uncle Jack who was likely named after him.

My granfather moved to Oslip when he married my grandmother, recently discovered their wedding information on another database.

Where do you get the information about descendents you list in your post?

I am very interested in looking back and of course there is no one to ask at this point.

Was ich weiß, ist, dass diese neue knappe Einleitung mit פה נקבר oder פה נקברת bzw. פה נטמן oder פה נטמנת im späten Mittelalter aufkommt. Die Formel ist zunächst noch ausgeschrieben und verbreitet sich sehr schnell.

Does any of the wordings have a specific purpose? Does it signify something?
When was one used and when was the other, or were they used randomly without any specific meaning?

As far as I know, these days פ”נ is mostly (maybe even exclusively) used.

“Hirsch”, but depending on the region where it was used, also “Steinbock” or “Damhirsch” is איל and the fem. אילה or אילת “Hinde”, “Damhirschkuh”, but also “Reh” in the region of Tiberias-Safed and Karmel.

This is ugaritic plural ‘aylm and accadian ayalu.

If we are at linguistics you mentioned טביא.
If I look at BABA METZIA 85b it says there:
“וציידנא טבי ומאכילנה בשרייהו ליתמי”
This usually translates from Aramaic to Hebrew as:
“וצד צבאים ומאכיל מבשרם ליתומים”
Similar also in KETUBOT 103b.
If as you say טביא is a Gazelle than, in Talmudic time (according to the translation) צבי is a Gazelle.

If צבי is a Gazelle, what is a Hirsch called in Hebrew or Aramaic of that time?

The 4th line is not clear as I wrote above, because there is no Acrostychon for יעקב – but we would estimate it (I too can not find a ק) – you affirm my reading.

Dear Meir, this is the modern and common use, but in biblical times the original meaning of צבי is definitely the “Gazelle”, it is the accadian word sabitu (s is pronounced as Z like in Zionism!) and this means “Gazelle”. Egyptian-Aramaic and Syrian it is the word טביא with the same meaning “Gazelle”.

My German is far from perfect but I thought that:
Hirsch is ZVI צבי
and
Gazelle is OFER עופר
עופר = צבי או איל צעיר
ארץ צבי = ארץ ישראל
