This was the family of Simon Neufeld who was born in 1705 and whose first wife was a member of the Schischa family. SImon Neufeld whose gravestone also appears on this blog is a grandson and namesake of this Simon. He is also a descendant of the first wife.

The grandfather of Salamon/Schalom Österreicher was a son of Simon’s second wife.

His surname, however, appears as NEUFELD in the record, signifying that his paternal ancestors were among the Jews expelled from the Burgenland town of Neufeld when it was made Judenfrei a century earlier. Some Neufelders changed their name to Oesterreicher.
